Manufacture of the P-107 began in November 1938.   3276 had been produced up to the fall of France and a large proportion of these ended up in Wehrmacht service.   Some were used in their original configuration whilst others were modified by their new owners to make them more suited to their required role.   From 1943, many were fitted with a fully armoured body, similar to the Sd.Kfz. 250 and used as personnel carriers.   Later versions had a more simplified armoured body that was quicker and cheaper to produce.   They were issued to Panzergrenadier units serving in France.
